Timothy “Tim” Shuff (affectionately known to most as “Buffo”), of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 4:20 p.m., surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Akron, Tim lived his life exactly the way he wanted to: fully and generously, with a joke always at the ready. He never met a stranger, only friends he had not talked to yet, and whether you knew him for decades or five minutes, you likely walked away with a story and a laugh.
Tim was a proud IATSE union stagehand his entire career and deeply loved his work at the Akron Civic Theatre, a place that felt like a second home. He took great pride in his contributions to the theater community, helping bring magic to the stage for audiences and performers alike. He also taught at Miller South School for the Visual and Performing Arts, sharing his knowledge and humor with young artists and technicians. Outside the theater, he cherished his time working at West Hill Hardware, where he enjoyed both the work and the friendships he made.
An Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, he loved the outdoors, fishing, and adventure. He cherished creating lasting memories, including racing Soap Box Derby cars with his daughters, and collected more wild and unforgettable stories than anyone who knew him could count. Above all, Tim was a devoted family man. He was a wonderful husband to his beloved wife, Elise, with whom he shared decades of love, laughter, and partnership. He was an adored father to his three daughters, Krista, Ruthie, and Madeleine, who were the light of his life. Tim cherished his role as a dad, offering guidance, support, humor, and unconditional love in equal measure.
He is survived by his wife, Elise; his daughters, Krista Shuff (Tony Ferrello), Ruthie Shuff (Jason Crum), and Madeleine Parks (Bryan Parks); his grandchildren, Dawson and Danity Crum; his brothers, John and Phil Shuff; and extended family and friends who were fortunate to share in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Robert Shuff.
In keeping with Tim’s wishes, there will be no traditional service. Instead, a celebration - a party worthy of him - will be held on April 4, 2026, at the Akron Civic Theatre, where stories, laughter, and a few well-timed punchlines will be more than welcome. More details will be shared when plans are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s memory to the Akron Civic Theatre or to organizations supporting local stagehands, causes close to his heart and hands.
Tim (Buffo) has now moved on to the next adventure, and knowing him, it is already a good one.
