Tom was one of 3 boys born to George and Bernadine Davis. He was raised in East Islip New York on the Great South Bay where you could find him fishing and boating. Tom put himself through college as a clam digger. He earned a degree in Agricultural Business from Cobleskill College .
Tom met his wife of 53 years, Doris, while working at Grumman on Long Island New York. Tom bought Doris a coke, flashed his smile that showed off his dimples and they were engaged six months later. They had their two children, son Paul ( Jenna) Davis and daughter Diane (Francis) Mackey.
Tom’s talent was in sales where he took great pride in caring for his customers. Many became dear friends that he remained close to over the years. Tom’s profession led to a few moves before starting his own company (OWD) and settling down in Georgia in 1979. While in Georgia, Tom and Doris would make many friends that became family. Tom continued to enjoy the great outdoors, hunting, fishing and buying a tree farm. He shared his love for the outdoors with his son, son in law and grandson, Hunter.
After retiring, Tom and Doris did what no one in their right mind would do- they moved up north to Akron, Ohio in 2014. This allowed them to be close to their daughter and family. The Mackey grandchildren would keep Tom busy with many sporting events to attend and trips to get ice cream. Akron welcome both Tom and Doris with open arms and it was not long before they became involved with St. Vincent De Paul Church and Tom with the Knight of Columbus.
Tom loved sharing stories and telling jokes. He loved dogs and a good glass of bourbon. Tom loved his friends and most of all, his family. He was a great grandfather to his grandchildren, Hunter, Molly and Grace Mackey and J.T, Sadie, Eli and Liam Davis. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the Heart Failure and Transplantation Cardiology group at Summa Health for giving Tom extra time with those he loved and the care team on 3 East of Summa City Hospital, who made Tom’s journey to heaven a peaceful and beautiful experience.
