Teresa McElhinny, 101, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick; sons-in-law Bill Cook and Butch Innis; 2 grandchildren; and seven siblings. She is survived by her children Jeff, Barbie Cook, Mary Beth (Tony) Ninni, Annette (Kim) Boser, Shelly Innis, Lisa (Alan) Tobin, Jane (Greg) Gossman, Julie (Jack) Durante, and Lori (Michael) Sturgill; 17 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Born in Fredericksburg, OH, Teresa moved to Akron, OH where she worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company as a keypunch operator. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Dick McElhinny. Together they raised nine children. She was a stay-at-home mom until Dick died in 1976. Finding herself with time on her hands, Teresa started volunteering at The Village of St. Edward. Her volunteer job eventually turned into a fulltime job as a receptionist. At the coaxing of her children, she finally retired at 80 years of age. She spent her life after retirement making crafts for the Village of St. Edward Service League, playing euchre with her friends, and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Teresa returned to The Village of St. Edward in 2019, where she lived until the time of her death. The family would like to give a special thank you to Darlene and Jocelyn for their deep love and kindness toward Teresa.
