Steven Donald Finley left this world on November 9, 2024 after a long illness.
Steve was born February 11th, 1951 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, but always considered home to be his beloved Charleston, WV where he made life-long friends and graduated from George Washington High-school. He went on to graduate from The University of Akron, where he met the love of his life, Denise Maroon Finley, and the two made Akron their home. Together, they had two children, Amanda and Matt.
He will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his children, Matt and Amanda (Scott) Dodez; grandchildren: Luke and Ella; brothers, Paul (Denise) Finley, Andrew Finley; sister, Kate Schoener, many, many relatives and friends; and his furry bud, Louie. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Denise; and parents: Don & MaryJo Finley.
Steve’s love for his family was unrivaled. He shined as “Coach Finley” for his kids soccer teams at St. Sebastian, where he also presided as President of the Home And School Association. When they entered the world, his grandkids Luke and Ella quickly became his favorite past-time. Going to their school activities, sporting events and having weekly Sunday dinner was often the highlight of his week.
Steve Finley was a man of many talents and interests, always willing to take a leap and find something new to try. He worked in a variety of fields and jobs including Radio DJ, Pizza Store Manager, Trucking Company Associate, to name a few, until he really hit his stride in the Direct Marketing world acting as Account Executive and Vice President at several Ohio firms. Most recently, he spent his time at Kent State University where he helped streamline and coordinate with US Postal Service regulations. After retiring, Steve worked part time as a golf course associate and Home Depot garden department associate where he got to do what he loved most…being outside and talking to new friends.
He also had many personal interests including his lifelong love of music including playing the Mandolin, watching WVU and Ohio State Football, Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers plus old movies and tv shows especially a constant on his tv screen, the Andy Griffith Show.
