Sister M. Bernadette Evanchec, F.D.C. a faithful Daughter of Divine Charity for 83 years passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord on October 9, 2023 at the 3:00 hour of Divine Mercy. Sister
Bernadette was born on August 29, 1921 to Stephen and Barbara Evanchec (Zokvic) and baptized Teresa Anne. Sister Bernadette obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Marquette University and completed her undergraduate degree study at Fordham University and the University of Akron.Her legacy, that of love, and always putting the needs of others first was made visible through her commitment of service as Organist, Teacher, Principal, Moderator of the Sodalities, Christian Mothersand Eucharistic Minister to the elderly and home-bound in her later years. The message of the Gospel was evident by her prayerfulness, generous heart, and joy filled life as a Daughter of Divine Charity to all those she encountered. Preceded, in death by her parents and eleven siblings, she is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Evanchec, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins in the United States and Croatia. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched especially her religious community and the families of the parishes she served in NY, OH, PA and WI. Thank you to the care givers, staff, and all who assisted with her care and concerns over the years at the Village of St. Edwards in Fairlawn, Ohio. Visitation will be on Saturday October 14 th at 10:00 a.m. before the Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 11:00 at Francesca Leonora Hall Convent Chapel, 39 N. Portage Path, Akron Ohio 44303. Sister Bernadette will be laid to rest at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, in Braddock, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 17th .
