SISTER LIN HOWLEY, OP
Sister Lin Howley, OP, formerly Sister Kevin, 98, died on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus OH. Sister Lin, born in Youngstown, OH on September 22, 1923, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Langdon Howley, entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, Ohio, now Dominican Sisters of Peace, from St. Dominic Parish, Youngstown, OH on September 8, 1940. She made religious profession on July 19, 1942. She received her BSE from St. John College, Cleveland in 1951.
Sister Lin taught primary grades at St. Augustine, Barberton; Our Lady of the Elms, Akron; and St. Joseph, Mantua. At Regina Coeli, Alliance, she was teacher as well as principal from 1962-68. In Denver and Glenwood Springs, Colorado, her role was Religious Adult Education from 1969-72. In 1972, she was Elementary Parochial School Religion Consultant for the Youngstown Diocese and from 1979-87 Director of Religion Education at St. Joseph Alliance. Sister Lin was in pastoral ministry at St. Peter Parish, Canton and in Grieving Ministry for Cassaday-Turkle Funeral Home, Alliance. From 1997-2000 Sister volunteered as parish receptionist at St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Willowick where she served on the RCIA team. In 2009 she volunteered at St. Patrick Parish is Leetonia, OH. Sister retired at Our Lady of the Elms Wellness Center. Recently, she was moved to Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus.
Sister Lin was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, James, and Edward. She is survived by nieces, Maureen and Keith Altier, Patricia and Paulin Kerry; nephews, Thomas and Amanda Howley, Edward and Barbara Howley; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Calling hours are at Our Lady of the Elms Motherhouse, 1230 W. Market St., Akron on Tues., Oct. 26 from 3:00 -4:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Resurrection is scheduled for Wed., Oct. 27 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
