Obituary

SISTER THERESA DAMICONE, OP

Sister Theresa Damicone passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, in the Wellness Center of Our Lady of the Elms Convent following a courageous battle of pancreatic cancer. She was born February 6, 1934, in Ravenna, OH to John and Amelia (Caniglia) Damicone.

She is survived by siblings Sister Marie Damicone, OP of Our Lady of the Elms, Paul Damicone of Ravenna, and Frances (Patrick) Neeley of Dagsboro, DE, and sisters-in-law JoAnn (Bruno) Damicone of Ravenna and Karen (Marshall) Damicone of Munroe Falls. Additional survivors include a niece, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers John V. Damicone and Vincent T. Damicone.

Sister Theresa attended Immaculate Conception Grade School followed by Ravenna High School. After graduating in1951, she worked for five years for the Prudential Insurance Company. In 1956, feeling the call to religious life, she entered the religious community of Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, now Dominican Sisters of Peace, from Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna. In 1958, she made her profession as a Dominican Sister. She received her BSE from St. John College of Cleveland in 1964 and her MSE from the University of Akron in 1974. As a dedicated and excellent educator for over a span of 33 years, she taught intermediate grades at the Catholic schools of St. Augustine, Barberton; St. Matthew and Our Lady of the Elms, Akron; St. Felicitas, Cleveland; and Immaculate Conception, Ravenna. For many years, she served as Congregational Secretary and years later as Congregational Communicator for the Dominican Sisters at Our Lady of the Elms. Even up until the last months of her life, she faithfully and generously attended to and participated in numerous community services of liturgies, communications, receptionist, and so many others.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, at Our Lady of the Elms Convent Chapel, 1230 West Market St., Akron, at 11:00 AM, preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
