Ruth Roberts Obituary

Ruth Helen Roberts, 100, passed away Friday evening December 27, 2024, at her residence.

Ruth was born in Akron, Ohio on December 13, 1924. She graduated from Buchtel High School in 1942. After high school she went to work as a secretary at Firestone Rubber. It was there that she decided that another career path would be a better decision. Ruth went on to get her RN diploma in 1950 from Peoples Hospital.  It was there that Ruth met an intern Bob “Doc” Roberts. In 1954, Bob and Ruth were married in Virginia.  It was one her best decisions as Ruth and Doc lived a very prosperous life raising four children, countless dogs, and cats that were always dropped off at their farm of 17 acres.

Ruth had zest for life.  During WWII she took flying lessons to aid in the service for the war, but her father ended that endeavor.   She had a wonderful singing voice and was a member of The Doctor Belle’s Singing Group of Summit County.  She had an affection for gardening and her favorite flower was the gardenia.  Ruth was always on the go and never seemed to slow down.  She took up the game of golf and played up to the age of 90 chasing that elusive hole in one with her ladies’ golf league at Good Park. Ruth was an avid college football fan cheering on her Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.  She loved to participate in the NCAA March Madness brackets and was known to walk away with winnings from pools across Ohio. Ruth was a good conversationalist who could always steer a conversation into a political debate. Her coleslaw, potato salad, and meatloaf will be dearly missed. Ruth was determined to celebrate her 100th birthday with her children and cousin, Karen Frey. where she enjoyed pizza, fried chicken and a piece of birthday cake while watching the Army versus Navy football game.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of Dr. Robert Roberts (Doc) who passed away in 1995.  Her parents, Arthur and Bertha Kipp, sister Eleanor Buehrle, and brother Hugh “Dutch” Kipp.

Affectionally known as Ruthie, Grams, and Memaw by her 4 children: Nancy Poling (Bill Kirk), Patty Roberts, Barb Campell, son in law Mark Campbell, all of Akron Ohio, and Rocky (Deb) Roberts of Marietta Ohio.  Six grandchildren: Chris (Marcy) Poling of Austin Texas, Colleen Kuhn of Portland Oregon, Megan (Marisa) Singleton of Las Vegas Nevada, Ryan Campell (Erika Langham) of Akron Ohio, Joe Roberts of Salt Lake City Utah, and Erica Roberts of Columbus Ohio.  One great grandson Mason “Lil Mac” Campbell.

A special thank you to Crystal Byrd, Slyvia Dampier, En’Dia Millender, and Resheena Isaiah and Hospice of Crossroads for their compassionate care.

Ruth will be entombed at Rose Hill Cemetery and reunited with her husband Bob. There will be a private family viewing at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home Fairlawn Ohio and ceremony with a celebration of life at a later date.
