Ruth McLaughlin Obituary

Ruth McLaughlin of Barberton, Ohio passed away at the age of 96 on Friday, May 24, 2024. Born and raised near Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania by her parents, Benjamin and Henrietta (née Rosborough) Ellis, with her four siblings. Ruth always spoke fondly of that period. At 22 she moved to Akron, Ohio and began working at a local ice cream manufacturer. Shortly after, she met George McLaughlin whom she married in 1952 and would together have a daughter, Roxana. Ruth was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Barberton for decades and later attended CrossPoint Alliance in Fairlawn.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Roxana Brown, granddaughter Renée Brown and grandson Mark Brown, great-grandchildren Emma Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Lily Brown and Avery Spurgeon, her brother Harry Ellis and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George McLaughlin, her son-in-law, Barry Brown, and her siblings George Ellis, Norma Young and Gladys Stiver.

If you spent any time with Ruth, you know she had an independent spirit, was quick to smile, easy to talk to and a doer. Ruth was genuinely interested in the people in her life and demonstrated her love by her actions.
