Ruth F (Speicher) Hagens

Ruth Faye Hagens, age 85, was born in Somerset, PA on June 19, 2025. She lived most of her life in Ohio. She passed away due to medical issues, poor health and chronic pain on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Walter Speicher and Lillian (Fritz) Speicher. Following her death, her son Ronald Hagens passed the following day. She is survived by her four sisters: Jean Wright, Shirley Reese, Janet Blough, and Delores (Jim) Law; her daughter Cheryl (Stephen) Ely; her son Donald Hagens; two grandsons Anthony and Ryan Ely; two granddaughters Rachel Henry and Hannah Ely; three great-grandsons Kane Henry, Dominic and Bryce Holloway and one great-granddaughter Aleena Robinson; and three great-great granddaughters Aliyah, Karleigh and Nylah Henry.

Ruth was the fourth of five girls (Jean, Shirley, Janet, Ruth, Delores). She grew up in neighboring areas around Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Conemaugh Highschool in 1958 and went to Nursing school to become a Registered nurse. She married Ronald D Hagens in December 1961 whom was in the Air Force. She got to live in Louisiana and Florida while Ron was in the service before moving back to Pennsylvania. Eventually they ended up residing in Ohio around the Akron area. Her son, Ron, lived with her most of this time.

She worked as a nurse for over 40 years at Robinson Memorial, Akron General, Akron City and Green Cross Hospitals. She has a lifelong friend, Helen Myers from working at Green Cross, now Western Reserve Hospital. Ruth had to retire early due to having 3 back surgeries which led to chronic pain the latter part of her life. Ruth was also a “jack of all trades,” but you would not see her googling YouTube Videos to figure things out. She tried everything thru trial and error and usually always succeeded.

Ruth belonged to St. Lukes Lutheran Church which she enjoyed volunteering. Has her health got worse, she had to stop and dearly missed doing those things. Ruth was loved by all and will be missed.
