Richard (Dick) M. Capotosto, 81, of Westfield Center, passed away on November 1st after a lengthy illness. Dick was born on February 23, 1942 to Angelo and Cecilia Capotosto on North Hill in Akron. Dick attended St. Martha's Grade School, then graduated from Hoban in 1960 where he excelled in athletics (Football, Basketball, Golf) and academics. Dick received a grant from the John S. Knight foundation to further his education. He first attended Detroit University majoring in Engineering but changed course and went on to complete his undergrad at Akron University, then graduated from Western Reserve Dental School in 1967. Upon graduation, he joined a Dental practice with Robert A. Conley in Fairlawn, then founded his own practice in Wadsworth, where he collectively served for 25 years. He retired from Dentistry, then served as a Business Manager at Adam Signs in Massillon for another 20 years.
Dick married Carolynn DeOrio in June, 1965. They went on to live in Fairlawn for 20 years, then Westfield Center where he wanted to relocate to play golf at Westfield Country Club. With a handicap of 4 and many broken clubs, golf always played an important part in Dick’s life. His obsession with golf stems back to his caddying days at Portage Country Club as a young boy to early morning rounds at Maple Crest course with his lifelong buddies: Les Radwany, Joe Falanga and the Ed Denholm family.
Dick was a phenomenon, taking on a variety of challenges and traits throughout his life. Over his years, he enjoyed golf, gardening, landscaping, building houses, bringing old gadgets (clocks) back to life, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Life was busy raising 5 children and 10 grandchildren, supporting them through school, sports, business, and raising their own families and supporting their pursuits..
Dick was predeceased by his parents (Angelo & Cecilia Capotosto), in laws (Paul & Caroline DeOrio), and sister (Margerie Shanahan). He is survived by his sisters (Nancy McGregor, Connie Buzek, Mary Jo Pugliese (Joseph), sister in laws Rosemary Kish, Paulette Sprain), children (Angela, Richard A. (Marie), Monica McMullen (Kevin), Nicholas (Jeanne), and Christopher (Katherine), grandchildren (Lt. T-Dugan & Lt. Mia McAdams, Connor, Kelly & Rhett McMullen, Zachary, Jack, Nathan, Grace, Isabella, Emily Capotosto, Samantha & Anthony Capotosto), and faithful dog Cinnamon.
