Richard R. Huth

Richard R. “Dick” Huth, 88, a lover of life, passed peacefully surrounded by his family into the loving arms of the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Lauretta, ten of his 11 siblings, and his wife Suzanne (Bishop) Huth. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Hill, daughters; Gwen Barnick (Jeff), Laura Acierno (Frank), Kristin Dowling (Steven), son Tad (Yolanda), eight grandchildren, and, three great-grandchildren, Jan Grell his “everything” devoted life partner, and her children, Geoffrey (Kate), Stacie Smith, and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind, many nieces, nephews, and friends whom he loved and who loved and respected him.

Richard was born in Akron, Ohio, on January 7, 1934. He graduated from Ellet High School in 1951, then enrolled in ROTC at the University of Akron. He and his brother Henry formed Huth - Westwood Builders in 1959. These brilliant brothers brought solar energy innovations to Northeast Ohio and received a number of awards for the homes they built. His influence can be seen in everything he created from the stilts he built for his children when they were young, to the castles families call their homes today.

He was a member of: Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Past President the Home Builders Association of Greater Akron (HBA); as well as, a member of the Ohio Home Builders Association (OHBA), and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Additionally, Richard was Co-founder of the Henry & Laura Huth Charitable Foundation supporting non- profit adoption agencies that recognize the importance of keeping siblings united; serving underprivileged children and at risk youth, fostering self-reliance and providing educational scholarships.

He will be remembered for his love and devotion to family, country, and strong work ethic. He will be dearly missed by all, but never be forgotten.

A private service will be held at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Henry & Laura Huth Foundation, 1245 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Suite #8, Akron, OH 44321.
