Reverend David L McCafferty

Reverend David L. McCafferty died Monday, 13 January 2025, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.

 David L. McCafferty was born on 21 February 1938. His parents were the late Edward and Marie (Volk). He was educated at St. Sebastian Elementary, Akron, Borromeo High School, Wickliffe, Borromeo College, Wickliffe, St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 23 May 1964 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Floyd L Begin ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

 Father McCafferty’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. St. Richard, North Olmsted. On 17 June 1970 he was transferred to St. Edward, Ashland to serve as Parochial Vicar and served as Chaplain of Newman Apostolate, Ashland College. On 5 February 1976 Fr. McCafferty was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Clare, Lyndhurst. During this assignment he also served as Vicar Coadjutor of Annunciation, Cleveland effective 3 April 1979. On 26 May 1979 Fr. McCafferty was named Pastor of Annunciation, Cleveland. On 15 September 1989 he was named Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wickliffe. During this assignment he served as Chaplain of for Knights of Columbus #5405 effective 14 January 1994. Fr. McCafferty retired on 30 June 2008. Fr. McCafferty was a quiet and reserved man with a great sense of humor.  He lived priesthood in service to the people entrusted to his care.  May God reward him for his faithful service.

Preceded in death by brother James (Marilyn). He is survived by nephew Tim (Rose) McCafferty and niece Laura (Jeff) Kendro.

 The wake will begin on Friday, 17 January 2025, in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 164 W. Market Street, Akron, OH 44303 at 3:00pm with Vespers and will continue until 6:00pm. Bishop Michael Woost will preside and Fr. Eric Garris will be the homilist.    The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 18 January 2025 in St. Vincent de Paul Church at 11:00am. Bishop Martin Amos will be the main celebrant and Fr. Damian Ference will be the homilist. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron.
