Patrick M. Thompson
Patrick was born on June 9, 1944 at City Hospital in Akron, Ohio to Howard V. “Mike” and Dorothy Helen Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-sister, Georgia Ann Kennedy of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Jackie; daughters, Kimberly Ann Thompson, and Amy Ishee; son-in-law, Dan Ishee; grandchildren, Jack Daniel and Riley Grace Ishee; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Patrick grew up on the near side of West Akron, fondly known as LA. He attended St. Vincents Grade and High School, graduating in 1962.
He attended the University of Akron majoring in Business, pool, euchre and hearts and was a proud member of Lone Star Fraternity.
After college he began his career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. working in their Planning and Distribution group.
In 1976 he transferred to Motor Wheel Corporation, then Hayes Lemmerz Intl. and spent 40 years in the automotive and truck industry. His assignments included Purchasing, Materials, Operations and Human Resources. In 1996 he became a certified instructor in the Toyoda Manufacturing System implementing Lean Manufacturing.
Patrick was head coach for St. Martha's varsity and junior varsity CYO football teams and was the first class of Certified CYO Coaches.
He served on the United Way Executive Boards in LaGrange County, Indiana and Madison County, Kentucky. He was made an Honorary Kentucky Colonel in 1993.
After retirement in 2004 Jackie and Pat returned to the Akron area making their home in Wadsworth.
Patrick served as a counselor for the Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) assisting small business with start ups and operation problems.
He was an avid Browns, Buckeye and Tribe fan and a proud member of the Lone Star Thursday Retiree League, where he developed special rules applying to leaves, water, trees, and squirrels.
Mass of Christian Burial 10am Friday, March 5th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where friends may call call 1 hour prior to Mass time.
