Patricia Ann (Patty) Norval passed away at the age of 89 with her four children and companion
by her side on January 4, 2024 after a brief illness
Patty was born in Akron, Ohio on November 4, 1934. She was a graduate of Buchtel High
School and the University of Akron, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She
served as President of Witan, was an active member of the Akron Junior League and the
Women’s City Club. Patty also volunteered at both the Coach House Theatre and Weathervane
Theatre. She previously worked directly in the office of Akron mayors John Ballard and Roy Ray
and for the Summit County Clerk of Courts. As an entrepreneur, she owned Norval’s Cards and
Gifts at Highland Square with her best friend and sister-in-law, Mary Norval.
She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Christ Community Chapel, and Redeemer Lutheran
Church. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and loved a good party. She was loved by
thousands.
Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ben, her sister, Vinna, and mother Ruby, she is
survived by sons John, Todd (Nada),and Patrick (Ronnita) Norval, and her daughter Amy Cope
(Brett), 8 grandchildren, Natalie (Michael) Pancoe, Jessica (John) Norval Huoy, Brad (Rachel)
Norval, Brooke, Brennan Norval, Hanna (Garrett) Herrman, Haley and Harrison Cope, and 2
great-grandchildren Eli and Katarina Pancoe, and her companion, David Wykoff, along with his
daughters Beth Harmon, Jane Wykoff-Jones and Julie Rudwall. She will be deeply missed.
Patty was a voracious reader, wrote poetry, wrote cookbooks (in collaboration with all Norvals),
loved politics, music, musicals, movies, plays, travel, shopping, bridge, Bridge “Club” and was one of those
people lucky enough to have countless “best” friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12 noon at Cirello-Carr on 39 S Miller
Rd, Akron, OH 44333, (330) 836-3100 with a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
