PATRICIA BLANKENSHIP (FLYNN) Obituary

PATRICIA A. BLANKENSHIP (FLYNN)

Patricia Blankenship, 78, passed away on May 1, 2020 after contracting Covid19.

She was born in Akron to James and Elizabeth Flynn. She attended St. Mary's School for twelve years. She married and raised her four children in Copley. She retired from Akron Children's Hospital in 2002 and was a strong supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She loved Irish music and Irish dancing and was a long time member of the Ancient Order or Hibernians.

Her faith and passion, yielded her to become a CYO basketball coach at St. Mary's; coaching her own daughters. She hosted much appreciated team pizza parties at the end of the season. The students called her Mrs. B and she loved each of them. Without hesitation, she offered an abundance of generosity with anything she could do to help with transportation of her students or a trip downtown for new clothes. Of course, she was Lebron's biggest fan. She was such a beautiful person who was kind, selfless and devoted to her family and friends. All who knew her, were touched by her compassion. We were all so blessed to have her as a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her smile and laugh were infectious as was her feisty sense of humor. She had an unconditional love for her family and friends. Geneva on the Lake held a special place in her heart where she walked down memory lane as she reminisced about all of us spending the summers there in Dr. Desman's cottages. She and grandma Liz would cook enough food for an army and every dish was gourmet. Over the years, when preparing her a meal, we were very much made aware of her recipe as she closely observed.

We want to thank Kathy Desman, Ellen and Alan Kurek, Augusta Vinson and Mabel Vaden for your dedicated friendship to mom. Also, thank you to all of the staff at Hospice, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Pebblecreek Advance 360 Rehabilitation.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth Flynn; daughter; Terri Harris; son, Patrick Blankenship; granddaughter; Melissa Helsel; and grandsons, Michael Helsel and Patrick Blankenship, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim Blankenship and Tracy Friedman (Jim); grandchildren, Jennifer Helsel (Michael), Matthew Harris (Dezirae), Andrew, James and David Glotfelty and Cory Friedman; great-grandchildren, Madison and Kelsie Helsel and Braidyn Rodriguez, Hailey, Jordan, Cameron and Amiya Benford, Izaac, Gabriella and Khloe Harris, Scarlett Glotfelty; brother, James (Elvera) Flynn, niece; Christine (Paul) Michaels;nephew, Mike Flynn; great nieces and nephews, Caroline (Shawn) Michaels, Kellie (Walter) Wang and John Michaels.

Rest in Heaven mom. We love and miss you so much.
