Nancy Scalia Obituary

Nancy Scalia (Baughman)

1940-2021

Nancy E. Scalia (nee Baughman) passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the age of 80 at the Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn, Ohio.

Nancy was born November 3, 1940 in Akron, Ohio. She was a 1958 graduate of St. Vincent High School (now St. Vincent-St. Mary). Most of her career was spent as a waitress at the venerable Akron restaurant Nick Anthe’s. After retiring from Anthe’s, she went back to work for the Akron Public Schools as a secretary at Innes Middle School.

She treasured being around family and friends, watching classic movies, reading, going to Swenson’s, DiVitis Italian Market and Dontino’s restaurant. She would reminisce about the days at Crosby Street and Canyon Trail, and she would happily attend a “hippy fest” or concert with her two sisters, Suzanne and Barbara. Music meant a lot to her, including the music of Bob Dylan, the Eagles, George Harrison and Bob Seger. She loved to crochet, cook and otherwise take care of her family. She most certainly loved animals, including her cat Ally and 3 generations of Schnauzers, all conveniently named “Sammy.”

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Mary Baughman; and husband, Cosimo Scalia. Survived by her two sons, Tom Maglione (Karen) and Tim Maglione (Cindy); her two sisters, Suzanne Stock (Steve) and Barbara Harris (Tom); three grandchildren, Annie Maglione (Will), Tyler Maglione and Tori Maglione; and numerous nieces and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for the Sherman family.

The family wishes to thank the caretakers at the Village of St. Ed’s and Cleveland Clinic Hospice.

A celebration of life will happen later in June.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Humane Society of Summit County, https://www.summithumane.org.
