Mary Vieltorf Obituary

Mary Jane Vieltorf, 85, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023 surrounded by family at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center.

Jane, as she was known by most friends and acquaintances, was born on September 20, 1937 in Marshalltown, IA to the late Frank J. Dworzak and Ann Elizabeth (Blaschke) Dworzak. Jane graduated from St. Mary's High School in Marshalltown, IA in 1955 and later from American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines, IA which prepped her for her executive secretary jobs which followed graduation.

After graduation, Jane remained in Des Moines, IA where she met her husband Paul Vieltorf and they were married on July 22, 1961. Following her husband's career, Jane and Paul moved to Hanford, CA in 1962, Des Moines, IA in 1966, Clinton, CT in 1967 and Akron, OH in 1969, which has since been “home.”

Jane was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Ann Dworzak; brother, Marvin Dworak and wife Nancy; brother, David Dworzak; daughter, Lori Vieltorf; and son, Thomas Vieltorf.

Jane is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul Vieltorf; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Zuder; son, Stephen (Becky) Vieltorf; sister, Betty Donovan; brother, James (Jim) Dworzak; three grandchildren, Lauren Kil, Hailey Vieltorf and Meghan Vieltorf.

Jane was a very nurturing person, smothering her children and grandchildren with love and affection. Jane was always available to fill a need and was a long time member of the Christ Child Society, where she headed up the “Coats for Kids” program for many years. Her combination of experience, knowledge and judgment was a combination that benefited everything she touched. Jane touched all the bases in life and in doing so she followed everything with the following quote “be a girl with a mind, a woman with an attitude and a lady with class.”

Jane was not an “all work” person and enjoyed family car trips to the West, beach vacations to Hilton Head Island and long weekend trips to Chicago with long time friends. Jane was an excellent ballroom dancer and contact bridge player and enjoyed both for many years.

A special thank you to the hospice nurses that cared for Jane.
