Marjorie DeLuca Obituary

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, Marjorie Z. DeLuca passed away peacefully after a long battle with COPD.

Born December 20, 1951, Marjorie was an outstanding student.  Marjorie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Rhetoric from the University of Akron while working full-time and maintaining a consistent presence on the Dean’s List. A loyal, dedicated professional, she spent most of her career with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in the Public Relations Department. She rose through the ranks to become Editor of the company’s newsletter, The Wingfoot Clan.  In addition to her corporate career, Marjorie was a talented photographer who captured countless weddings over the years, preserving cherished memories for many families.

Marjorie married Vincent W. DeLuca, Jr. in 1970. Their two sons, Matthew and John, were the loves and focus of their lives. Their close-knit family life was filled with gatherings of extended family and friends.  Marjorie had a radiant smile that emanated love and warmed the hearts of everyone she encountered.

When Vincent became ill with leukemia, true to Marjorie’s love and dedication, she cared for him for many years, even as she began to experience debilitating symptoms of COPD. Both were devout Catholics who were members of both St. Hilary and St. Sebastian Parishes and prayed the Rosary daily. However, due to being housebound from illness, she attended Mass online during the last five years of her life. Reflecting their mother’s steadfast commitment to their beloved family, Marjorie’s sons devoted themselves to her care throughout her long, challenging illness. They were heartened and inspired by their mother’s tenacious will to live, her perseverance, and her determination to overcome her illness and the setbacks she experienced. Marjorie demonstrated to the end how much a vital faith, a strong mind, and a zest for life can accomplish. Her life, and the example she set—enveloped in memories of her ever-present loving kindness—will remain a bedrock of strength for them.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and John Zvoleff, and her baby siblings, Marjorie and John, each of whom died shortly after birth. She is survived by her sons, Matthew and John; her sister, Maryann Thomas; her sisters-in-law, Jane (Bill) DeLuca, Karen (Dennis) Ripple, and Lorraine (Scott) Grieshammer; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her family greatly appreciates the care Marjorie received over the years from many medical professionals—especially the late Dr. Breen, as well as his team from the Cleveland Clinic Home Care unit, who so kindly visited the DeLuca home to care for Marjorie since 2019.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Hilary Church in Fairlawn on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with calling hours at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make donations in Marjorie’s honor are encouraged to support a favorite animal shelter, as she had a deep love for all animals, or to contribute to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.
