Margarete A. (nee Backer) Burghardt

Margarete Burghardt passed away, Monday, July 11, 2022 at the age of 87. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, Oma, and Great Oma who treasured spending time with her family. Margarete truly loved to entertain and treat her family and friends to her fantastic array of traditional culinary delights.

Margarete was born in Romania and was the oldest of 7 children; she spent 7 years living in Austria before immigrating to the United States in 1951. Throughout her life in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Margarete was an active member of St. Joseph Church, where she was also married in 1954. She met her husband, Michael, at the Greater Beneficial Union Club. Margarete’s professional accomplishments are crowned by her retirement from Betsy Ross Foods after 25 years of service.

Margarete was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Marie Backer, as well as her husband of 53 years, Michael Burghardt. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie Andreani and son-in-law, Scott Andreani of Macedonia; as well as her grandchildren, Matthew (Heather Pollock) Neidert of Akron and Laura (Jon) Craig of North Wales, PA. Her family had grown to include two Great-Grandchildren, Harper Neidert and Colin Craig, whom she truly adored. Margarete is also survived by her siblings, Steve (Vera) Backer of Akron, Rudy (Kathy) Backer of Copley, Louisa (Jim) Berens of North Lawrence, Henrietta (Steven) Johnson of Hudson, Mary Anne Meindl of Orville, and Joseph (Sandy) Backer of Kent. In addition, she will be missed by her many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 5 – 7 pm at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, located at 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11am. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
