Margaret Renner, 102, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away on August 15, 2023 at Western Reserve Hospital. She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on August 2, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Anna (Spenik) Lazen and Frank Lazen. She traveled to New York City during the summer of 1938 when she was only 16 years old to work as a nanny to earn extra money to send back home to her parents and to buy a special graduation dress. She graduated the next summer of 1939 from University High School. During the war, she married her high school sweetheart, Eulas “Lee” Marshburn, from Fairmont, West Virginia in Baltimore, Maryland on February 22, 1944.
After the war, they moved to Akron, Ohio, to find work. She had many jobs over the years including a sales clerk and phone operator, and worked as a “Rosie the Riveter”, but the job she held the longest was as an auditor for the Ohio Unemployment Bureau. It is there that she met her second husband, Earl Raymond Renner, and married him on May 14, 1971. Together they built a wonderful life until his passing in August of 2009.
Margaret's greatest joys throughout her lifetime were her family and friends, whether in person or over the phone, and her lifelong love for dancing.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her two husbands, Lee (1967) and Earl (2009). Her siblings, Frank Lazan Jr., Jonny Lazan (as an infant), Virginia (Lazan) Shearer, and Helen (Lazan) Robinson. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Marshburn) Barboza and her three grandchildren Ashley Barboza, Samantha Barboza, and Jonathan Barboza, along with her cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our family would like to thank all the incredible care workers at Western Reserve Hospital and Akron City Hospital (Summa). Thank you to her lifelong friend, Mary Lofreso, for all her love and support. Carol and Jack Parker Park, for being by her side to the end. I also want to thank all her friends and families that helped her get to appointments, provided support, and cared for her over the years.
Calling hours are 9:30-10:30am Saturday, August 26th, at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, followed by Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
