Kevin Sullivan Obituary

Kevin James Sullivan, 87, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Akron
General Hospital. He received Last Rites from his parish priest, Fr. James Singler, and was
surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. Kevin was born and raised in Buffalo,
NY. During childhood, he was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and
attended grade school there. Kevin attended Canisius High School in Buffalo, and went on to
graduate from Fordham University earning both a B.A. and Master’s degree. He joined the
Jesuit Seminary and spent much of his time teaching high school students. Before deciding to
receive Holy Orders to become a priest with the Society of Jesus, Kevin discerned that he was
better called to serve God by raising a family. He left the seminary and began a dedicated career
in public service for the United States Federal Government. Shortly after, he met Elsie
Longmore in Baltimore, and they married in 1973. Kevin continued working for the Federal
Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C. Kevin and Elsie settled in Dale City, Virginia, and
raised three children of their own, as well as caring for 61 foster babies. For many years, they
were active in their parish, Holy Family Catholic Church. In 2011, Kevin and his wife moved to
Akron, Ohio, to be close to their grown children and grandchildren. Kevin will be remembered
for his humor and joke-telling, his sense of curiosity and adventure, and, above all, his devotion
to and love for family.
