Kathleen Mitchell Obituary

Kathleen Mary Mitchell. Stow, Ohio

Kathy was born April 18, 1950, in Springville NY and peacefully passed away overnight in her sleep in Stow OH the night of November 9, 2024.

Calling hours in Ohio are at the Ciriello-Carr Funeral Home on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2:00 pm through 4:00 pm. This will take place at 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Additional calling hours, funeral mass, and burial will take place the following week in Springville NY.

Kathy was the youngest of the 5 children of Ruth (Mahl) and John Mitchell Preceded in death by siblings Ruth, Edward, and Charles “Buddy”, Kathy leaves behind her sister, Anne. Kathy adored her family, especially her parents, siblings, and generations of a countless number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family would amusingly wonder if Kathy owned stock in the Hallmark Corporation from the many cards she would send. Whether it be a Birthday, First Communion, Graduation, Get Well, Anniversary, or a Condolence card, Kathy always found the perfect card….and sent it at the most perfect time! As an animal lover, pets would often receive cards too!

Kathy was very talented. She was an avid painter and creative hobbyist. Like her card giving, Kathy would often make personal gifts for friends and family. Some of her artwork had even been displayed at Peg’s Foundation and the Summit DD. A beautiful flower watercolor was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal.

Always the life of the party, Kathy had an endless bank of jokes and brainteasers. When in a room full of strangers, you could always rely on her to break the ice with a quip and create an instant commonality. She had the gift of remembering the question and the punchline. You’d never hear the same joke twice!

With the support of her family, Kathy lived a great life in Springville NY and OH. When she met foster-caregivers Randy and Beverly Gordon, Kathy began a new, awesome, and loving chapter of her life lasting 16 years. The Gordon crew LOVED Kathy, and she LOVED them!

It is fortunate for people to receive so much love, compassion and caring. Kathy received it two-fold! Kathy developed a wonderful and loving relationship with the Gordon’s extended family, especially Beverly’s mother, Judy. The Gordon’s dogs also adopted Kathy. Buster moved into her bedroom with her on the day she moved into their home! The Gordons recognized Kathy’s love of animals and assisted her in having her own dogs, Prancer, Rueben, and Beethoven in their home.

Beverly transported Kathy to Catholic Services day program daily for years. Kathy loved attending the program and made many, many friends there. It was a place where she was promoted to welcome everyone who entered the building at the start of the day. They held lots of fun events where Kathy would perform as a standup comedian. Randy and Kathy exchanged jokes with each other on a daily basis. Beverly, Randy, and Judy took care of Kathy not only with their love and compassion, but in maintaining her health needs and care without reservation. They are exceptional caregivers.

What did one bee say to the other? I love bee-ing with you Gordons
