Joseph P. Sansonetti III

Joseph P Sansonetti III, 68, passed away peacefully at home on January 26th, 2022. Joe was born in Akron and grew up in Fairlawn, graduating from Copley High School in 1972.

Joe had a 28-year career with the Bath Police Department beginning at age 18 when he was hired in the police cadet program in June of 1972. He advanced to dispatcher in 1974 through 1982, then served as a volunteer Police Officer until 1991 when he was promoted to a full-time officer. Joe retired from the department in 2000.

Joe graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Akron. He also earned a degree in Electronics Technology from the National Institute of Technology.

Joe was a lifelong model train enthusiast, with B&O being his favorite railroad. He attended many regional train shows with his daughter, Leanne, and as a pastime Joe would spend an afternoon watching trains at the Evans Ave Crossing in Akron while enjoying a DeVitis sub.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sansonetti, and brother, Roger. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Leanne (fiancé Kurt Arnold), mother, Adelia (Lu) Sansonetti, brothers Bob (Diana) and David (Teri), sister Luann Sansonetti-Spaethe, and many nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by his uncle Joe Marchetta, aunt Helen Marchetta, and numerous cousins with whom he shared a special connection while growing up together.

Joe was a private person and lived life on his own terms. We never lose those we give to God.

On Friday, February 4th, family and friends may call from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at St Hilary Church in Fairlawn. Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:00 noon followed by procession to Rose Hill Burial Park.
