Joseph Lechiara Obituary

Joseph M. Lechiara passed away on 09/04/24 after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph C. Lechiara, mother Virginia M. Lechiara (Paterno), sister Frances Stalker Ganim and niece Cristina Roney (Green).


Joe was born on August 17th 1935 in Smithers, WV and lived in S. Charleston, WV most of his youth. Joe married his high school sweetheart Phyllis in 1957 and graduated from Marshall University in the Honors Society in 1958 and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Joe served in the US Army for 2 years before accepting a job with Ernst & Ernst and moving to Akron, OH in 1960 and retiring as a partner in 1986. Joe volunteered over 31 years for the Akron Golf Charities and was Chairman of the NEC World Series of Golf in 1984. Joe was also a co-founder of the St. Hilary Parish Foundation. In 1994 Joe retired as the owner of American Brewed Coffee Services.


He is survived by his wife of 67 years Phyllis (Brewer), his sister Mary Green (Charlie), daughters Vicki Magno (Mark), Lisa Burgess (Geoff), son Michael, 4 grandchildren Erin Campbell (Bruce) of Columbus, OH; Jason Burgess (Chelsie) of Lexington, KY; Amanda Magno of Akron and Marissa Lechiara of Stow; 2 step grandsons Braeden and Camden Yacobucci of Stow; 3 great granddaughters Isadora, Lena and Emberly and 1 great grandson Luca due in December. Joe enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time with family and friends and loved his Cleveland sports teams.


A celebration of life will be held at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH on 09/29/24 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and mass will be held at St. Hilary's Church, 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn, OH on 09/30/24 at 11:00 AM.
