John David Bennett, 87, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, at his home on
Portage Lakes. John was born in Boulder City, Nevada on September 5th, 1936. Shortly after
his birth the family moved back to Brimfield, Ohio. John was a graduate of Kent State High
School in 1954. He attended and completed two years of college at Kent State University.
On October 12th, 1959 he was inducted in the United States Army and served until January
29th, 1962. He served in the 580th Engineer Company in Germany as a Liquid Oxygen Nitro
Product Specialist and received the Good Conduct Medal. John was employed by the Goodyear
Tire and Rubber Company for 40 years, retiring in 1997.
John’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, bicycling, cooking and gardening. After retiring, John
and his wife Diana spent their time traveling, camping and spending their winters in the Florida
Keys.
He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his endless kindness to all he met. He
was a great cook and loved entertaining friends and family.
John was preceded in death by his parents Edna and John Murray Bennett, brother Donald
Bennett, sister Rose Ann Scott, and brother-in-law Michael Polen. He is survived by his loving
wife of 42 years Diana, sister-in-law Nancy Polen, brother-in-law Larry Ealy, sister-in-law Debbie
Ealy sister-in-law Carolyn Polen, brother-in-law Dusty Cake and his dog pack Petey and Tanner
who were cared for by Nancy Polen everyday John was in the hospital and nursing facility. John
is also survived by many relatives and friends including a group of friends he named the Tilting
Cowboys: Cindy Galloway, Karen Heffernan, Steve Carson and Harry Wilcox, who were
constantly by his side in his last days.
