John Abbott Obituary

John Ronald Abbott, 82, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023.
He was the loving husband of Carole M. Abbott. They met when she was 16 years old and shared 57 years of blissful marriage together. They traveled the world and raised a loving family.
Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of John and Mabel Abbott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara J. A.Bohn.
He graduated from St. Xavier High School and from the University of Louisville with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked for The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, OH for 36 years. He was principal development engineer working as a tire designer in Tire Design Research, Advanced Concepts, New Products Development and Advanced Passenger Tire Programs. He was instrumental in various novel new tire innovations, particularly the launch of the run flat tire concept. His passion for innovation led to 11 US patents and 67 additional world-wide patents covering the various design technologies. John was known as an excellent team contributor who always had a smile on his face and always had great ideas and solutions.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. His hobbies were gardening, landscaping, genealogy, running, tennis, woodworking and could bake a mouthwatering sour cream potato chive bread and cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning.
John is also survived by his daughters, Michelle A. Billington (Michael) and Tara N. Smith (Rod), and son, John T. Abbott; grandchildren, Alexa N.Smith and Jake M.M. Smith; nephew, John G. Bohn and niece, Karen Bohn;brother-in-law, Kenneth Bohn and brother-in-law, Thomas E. Martin (Alice); cousin, Robert Ochsenhirt (Sharon), cousin, Faye Muly (Emil) and cousin, Jane Wodke.
We want to thank the Cleveland Clinic Home Care for their years of physical, occupational and speech therapy with his 23-year battle with Parkinson’s. In addition, we want to thank Jay Wilson for his years of loving support and care.
In his final days, we would like to thank the Cleveland Clinic Hospice Justin T. Rogers Care Center for making his journey home to the Lord a peaceful time.
Friends will be received at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Cuyahoga Falls, OH on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 P.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be in Northampton Cemetery at 1014 West Bath Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls.
