Obituary

Joanne Messina Owen, 81, passed peacefully on May 22, 2022. Born and raised in Akron and graduated from Akron University. She worked as an educator specializing in learning disabilities, while raising her five children. She later launched a very successful real estate career where she was passionate about helping her clients with their homes. She spent countless hours volunteering in the community including WITAN, Akron City Hospital women’s board, Women’s City Club and Stan Hywett. She also was a lifelong parishioner of St Hilary’s Catholic Church.
Family first- she loved spending time with her large family, hosting Italian dinners and traveling extensively. She celebrated 59 years of marriage to Bill Owen. She loved walking with her Labradoodle Luigi. She was a stylish woman and loved fashion and shopping.
Joanne was comfortable and surrounded by her loving family at home. She is survived by her husband, William James; five children, William John (Ellen), Scott, Lori Wallace (Tim), Leslie Helmbrecht (Marc) and Melissa (Valerie), as well as 8 grandchildren.

Calling hours are Monday at Ciriello and Carr, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial 11am Tuesday at St Hilary Catholic Church.

Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
