Janice (Jan) Carol Neely died peacefully in Copley, Ohio on December 2nd 2021, at the age of 82. Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years (as well as her battle with polio as a child) showed her courage in facing life challenges with determination and a smile. Jan was born in Akron, Ohio on July 8, 1939 and graduated from Kenmore High School in 1957 where she was active in clubs and activities. A lifelong Akron area resident known for her vibrant, fun loving personality and lasting friendships. Jan was very creative with interests in music, sewing, gardening, a quilting business and for many years participated in church choir and trio groups. She successfully launched a second career as a realtor and established herself among the business community and created many more enduring friendships. Jan loved spending time with her family and friends and loved being a grandmother and now great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by parents Francis and R.A Culbertson, brothers Homer Culbertson, Dale Culbertson and sister Eileen Lorenz. She is survived by her son James McConnaughey (Kristin), daughter Charise Gleason (Mick), grand-daughter Shannon Gleason, grandson Sean Gleason (Katie), grand-daughter Mesa McConnaughey and great grand-daughter Nora Gleason. She also leaves behind brother Roy Culbertson (Joan) as well as many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
The family would like to thank the team at Southern Care Hospice for their kindness and dedication to Jan’s care. They also want to recognize the team at Copley Health.
Calling hours 4-7 Monday at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn, where funeral services will be held at 1pm. Tuesday. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Jan’s family requests that all guests please wear a mask during the calling hours and Funeral Service.
