Jan, was called home to God and entered eternal rest on January 23, 2026 (5 days after her 87th birthday) with her daughters by her side.
Jan was born in Akron, Ohio to John (Jack) and Mary Strottner on January 18, 1939. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1956 graduate of St Mary’s in Akron. She entered the Sisters of Charity of St Augustine in 1957 took the name of Sister Jeanine. While in the convent, she attended St Johns College to pursue a nursing career. She left the convent in 1961 without finishing her degree and later worked for Dr. Robert Fiocca DDS, where she met her husband, Ray Harrington. Jan and Ray were married in 1966, and after starting their family, Jan chose to become a homemaker, dedicating her life to raising their girls. Together, Jan and Ray shared 27 loving years of marriage before his passing in 1994.
As a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for 60 years, she was a member of Mother of Sorrows and helped with the funeral luncheons, Women of Divine Mercy, and Grandparents Club. She was also a member of Christ Child Society. Jan possessed a creative spirit and taught herself to sew, lovingly making outfits for her girls when they were young. Her creativity often spilled over into many home projects. She served as a room mother and took great pride in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and athletic events. She spent many hours crocheting Afghans and making baby blankets for the Christ Child Society. The last few years, Jan found new purpose in crafting rosary bracelets for those in need of extra love and comfort. She gave them freely as gifts—often to people she didn’t even know—and found her greatest joy in doing for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mary, her husband, Ray Harrington, her sister Charlene Brock and brother Tom Strottner.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters Missy (Mark) Stoltz and Rene’ (John) McCann, her brother John (Janet) Strottner, grandchildren Meghan (Kevin) Clements, Matt Stoltz, Collin McCann and Matt McCann, numerous nieces and nephews; and by her wonderful friends; Aggie, Deb, Donna and Rosaleen. (and her fat cat Theo).
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Gabe Tensol, Dr. Satawart Upadhyay and the nurses Amy, Olivia, Julia, and Madi in the Cardiac ICU at UH for their compassionate care, professionalism, and unwavering support.
She has been our role model and a great nana to her grandkids. She taught us that kindness and compassion is the most important thing you can give to people. Jan was known for her candid nature and unfiltered honesty. While her voice, laughter, and blunt truth will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and in every rosary bracelet that continues to offer comfort and prayer.
