James L Swartz, 85, husband of Carol (Seminerio), passed away on Sunday May 15, 2022. He appreciated all the care his family provided especially his granddaughter Jennifer, niece Mary Schatz (Broughton) and many caregivers.
Jim was Born November 26, 1936 in Barberton Ohio, to Lester and Evelyn Swartz (Snodgrass). He grew up in Bath Ohio and graduated from Revere High School. He completed his Civil Engineering degree from University of Cincinnati in 1959 where he was a proud member of the Triangle Fraternity and Chi Epsilon Honorary Fraternity. Jim worked with the FAA for 1½ years and transitioned to the private sector where he retired as Vice President with URS after 45 years. He went on to spend 5 years with ODOT to finish his career. He was an active member in the American Society of Civil Engineers for over 60 years.
Jim loved serving the community and putting the needs of the community before his own, He served over 40 years for the city of Fairlawn including Park Board, Planning Commission, Ward 5 and at-large Councilman including over 20 years as President of City Council. He loved playing bridge, bowling and golf with friends and playing euchre and board games with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved building his model train sets with his grandsons, growing tomatoes in his garden, decorating the outside of the house for Christmas, and going to Hilton Head with family. Jim is a member of St. Vincent Church.
Jim is preceded in death by his Father Lester Swartz, Mother Evelyn (Snodgrass) Swartz, and his favorite mother-in law Josephine (Camarata) Seminerio.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Carol (Seminerio); sons, Ken (Michelle), Mike (Vicki), Don(Jamie), Doug (Scott) and Dave (Kacie); daughter, Kim; grandchildren, Jennifer, Leah, Andrew, Holly, John, Allison, and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Branson, Emily and Scarlett; brother, Dennis (Carole), and sister, Linda (Broughton) and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours 4-7 Thursday at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn. Mass of Christian Burial 2p.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment at Moore's Chapel Cemetery.
