James H. Lord
2/13/1937-11/6/2022
James H Lord, took his last breath on November 6, 2022 after one last hug with Annette, his wife of 62 years. It all started at Swenson's, Annette was in the back seat of her friend Joyce's car, and Jim was working his way through college as a car hop. Jim later called Joyce to get Annette's number!
Jim is preceded in death by his son, Robert; his brothers, John (Dixie), Bill (Margaret), Bob (Alice), and Frank; and his sister, Dorothy Torma (Frank).
He is survived by his wife, Annette (Kolb); children, James, Ann Messina (Sam), Dolly Brown (Scott), and Vincent (Sandy). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lydia, Courtney (Alex), Maria, Rob, Sam, Morgan, and Lia. He also leaves behind Annette's brothers and sisters, and their spouses, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jim enjoyed golf, hunting, and he was a proficient woodworker. Many of us treasure pieces that he lovingly and precisely crafted in his workshop. He also looked forward to the annual hayrides. Jim would hitch up the trailer to his tractor, fill it with hay, Annette, kids, grand kids, and friends. The route started at the house, then took the road up the hill. The tractor would invariably get “stuck” in the creek but Jim was always able to get free, to the cheers of his passengers. The ride would continue up the hill to stop again under the money tree, where the grand kids could reach up and pull dollar bills from the low hanging branches of a tree that he had prepped earlier that day. Back at the house, Annette had treats and hot chocolate waiting for all.
He had a quick mind and a dry sense of humor that he used to either make people laugh or scratch their heads! Those that know and love Jim rest easy with his passing, knowing that he is in heaven playing a highly competitive game of cribbage with his son, Robby.
Jim served in the Ohio National Guard, he was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 69, was a Grand Knight with the K of C 547, and a member of St Vincent Church.
Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St. in Akron, where friends may call 11:30-12:30.
