James Kern Obituary

James W. Kern

MUNROE FALLS - James William Kern, age 64 of Munroe Falls, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 26, 2023. He was born September 3, 1958 to parents John L. Kern and Theresa (Fabry) Kern and was raised in Struthers, Ohio.

Jim was a 1976 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown. In 1981 he graduated from The Ohio State University, College of Pharmacy and began his career working as a pharmacist in the Akron area. He worked for Akron General Medical Center, Akron Children's Home Care, Select Specialty Hospital and several other area pharmacies.

Jim's passion was watching football in person and on TV. His favorite teams were his alma mater Cardinal Mooney and Archbishop Hoban where his sons attended. He also was a big fan of Notre Dame and Ohio State football. One of his favorite things to do was to sit next to his son Matthew and cheer on their favorite teams!

Jim had an eclectic taste in music. He liked many varieties of folk music especially Irish and Cajun music and attended many folk and Irish festivals over the years. It was a source of pride to him that his son Patrick became a musician with Jim's full support and encouragement.

Jim loved the outdoors from a young age. Hiking, camping, and fishing were favorite pastimes. He became interested in geocaching along with his son Andrew and they spent many fun afternoons looking for caches. The whole family often joined in on these hiking adventures.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother Theresa Kern, his in-laws Patrick and Eleanor Bozzelli and his grandparents.

Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years, Beth (Bozzelli) Kern, his sons Dr. Andrew Kern, Patrick Kern, and Matthew Kern. Also surviving are his siblings John (Denise) Kern, Judy Kern (Steve Nigriny), Joyce (Bob) Campati, and Janet Kern-Vannoy (Kevin Vannoy), his brothers and sisters-in-law Debbie Sherritt, Michael (Patty) Bozzelli, Jenny (John) Messina, Bob (Winnie) Bozzelli, and Ed (Amy) Bozzelli. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
