James Walter Horvath
Jim (80) passed away suddenly August 22, 2021.
He was born May 3, 1941 in Cleveland and grew up in Richfield. After attending Revere High School, he put himself through night school at The University of Akron, eventually earning his B.S. in Business Administration. Jim began his 40 years at Ohio Edison as an auditor, and retired as a director in accounting.
He was a tireless volunteer, reestablishing and leading Boy Scout Troop 390 for almost 30 years. During his tenure as scoutmaster, more than 90 scouts attained the rank of Eagle. Jim backpacked at Philmont, attended National Jamborees, instructed leadership courses, and best exemplified the Scout Oath and Law.
In 27 years at Weathervane Playhouse, he served variously as chair of treasury, finance, building and grounds, and personnel. He also oversaw multiple expansion campaigns for the playhouse.
Jim was devoted to his family, preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; and his parents, Joe and Laina. He is survived by his son, Ryan who loves and misses him deeply; and his brothers, Dave and Warren.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Saturday, August 28th at the BILLOW FAIRLAWN CHAPEL, 85 N. Miller Rd in Fairlawn, where friends may call one hour prior to service time, Rev. Sandra Selby officiating.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Weathervane Playhouse.
