Jacklyn “Jackie” Kennell Orosz was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend whose life was defined by love, laughter, service, and connection. She touched countless lives through her kindness, humor, and unwavering belief that friends are important—a phrase she lived by every day.
Jackie dedicated more than 30 years of her life to public education, serving as a beloved teacher who left a lasting impact on her students and colleagues alike. Her classroom was a place of
learning, encouragement, and laughter. A lifelong learner herself, Jackie worked full time while pregnant with her second child to earn her Master’s degree in Education—an accomplishment she
was immensely proud of and one that reflected her grit, determination, and deep commitment to teaching. In recognition of her excellence and dedication, she was named Teacher of the Year at
Barrett Academy in 2004, an honor that reflected the deep respect and admiration of her school community.
Known for her amazing sense of humor and contagious laugh, Jackie brought joy wherever she went. She had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. She was a devoted friend
to many and cherished lifelong relationships, including her treasured friendship with Maryellen Cole, her dear friend since the age of three.
Jackie’s heart for service extended beyond the classroom. For decades, she volunteered at Akron Children’s Hospital and Haven of Rest Ministries of Akron, giving her time and compassion to children and families.
Jackie deeply loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, delighting in every moment spent together. She was never the mom who watched from the
sidelines—whether on field trips or family outings, Jackie always joined in. She loved adventure, especially roller coasters, and embraced life with enthusiasm and courage.
In retirement, Jackie and her husband cherished winters spent in Naples, Florida, where she found joy at the beach, soaking in the sunshine and the sound of the waves. She was a devoted Elvis fan and carried her playful spirit into every chapter of her life.
Jackie is survived by her loving husband, William Orosz; her son, Michael Orosz, and his wife, Christie, along with their children and grandchildren: Abigail and Jack Daugherty (Anna and Nathan),
George and Claudia Hearst (Micah Elliott), Begine White Klien, Emma and Garrett Satow, Hannah and Christian Hill (Evelyn), and Carley Orosz. Jackie is further survived by her daughter, Rachel
Orosz; her spouse, Laura Colbert; and their child, River Colbert.
She is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Donna Kennell Plazak and Jeff Plazak; and their children, Joy Hooper (Jeffery, Joseph, Juliette, June, and Jade) and Nicholas Plazak and his wife Jamie (Jacob, Colton, and Findley). Jackie’s legacy lives on in the many lives she shaped, the friendships she nurtured, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
