Jack C. Clifford, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Summa Hospital, after a short illness, with his sons by his side.
Born on July 9, 1929, to the late Claude H Clifford and Ethel L (Sherby) Clifford in Akron, Ohio, Jack lived in Cuyahoga Falls and Akron for the majority of his life. He graduated from North High School in 1947.
In 1951, Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a disabled veteran and was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. After returning home, Jack began his career at General Tire, where he served in several roles over a number of years. He later worked at various organizations across Northeast Ohio, including the Marriott Corporation and Allsides. In 1978, he accepted the role as general manager at Acme Ash Service, Inc, where he advanced through several leadership positions during a series of mergers and acquisitions. He eventually retired in 2000 as an executive with GSC Services LLC.
Jack was also deeply committed to his community. Early in his career, he served as head of the Democratic Party for Cuyahoga Falls and Akron, and he dedicated almost two decades of service to the Summit County Drug Board. He was a proud and active volunteer throughout his life.
Jack will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished time spent traveling with his family and wife and was a lifelong supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard C. Clifford and his wife of 61 years Geraldine Clifford.
He is survived by his sons, David (Brei) Clifford and Daniel (Wray Jean) Clifford; his grandchildren, Claudia, Cassidy (Que), Cameron, Lucas, and Delaney; and his great grandchildren, Dylann and Diana. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, with special gratitude to Jeff (Julie) Ferguson, Lori (Shawn) Sullivan, and Scott (Susan) Ferguson. The family also wishes to recognize the close friendships of Tony Lionette, Bob Deak, and many others whose support meant so much in Jack’s final years.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many healthcare workers, friends, and loved ones who supported Jack and his family - especially in recent years, as Jack also helped care for Gerry. Your kindness and presence meant the world to us. You know who you are.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with a funeral service at 6pm at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH.
