J. Howard Mehigan

J. Howard Mehigan, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Born in Akron, Ohio, on September 25, 1936, Howard led a life of faith, dedication, and service.

He graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1954 and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Akron, where he was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. Howard served his country honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army.

Howard began his professional career at J.C. Penney before transitioning into roles in the automotive purchasing departments at B.F. Goodrich and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Later, he joined Detroit Diesel in Canton, where he worked until his retirement. As a licensed real estate agent, he sold homes part-time for Robert Strecker Realty.

A devoted member of St. Hilary Church, Howard was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a member of the St. Vincent-St. Mary Athletic Booster Club.

A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, Howard celebrated team victories and always looked forward to the next season. He took pleasure in coffee and conversation after morning Mass, golfing, working in the yard, and spending time with family.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, J. Howard Sr. and Agnes (Labbe); sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and C. Joseph Durbin, Jr.; brother Denis Mehigan; nephew Michael Mehigan; and brothers-in-law Rev. Frank LaRocca and Louis Maglione.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jennie (LaRocca); daughters, Dr. Julie (Jeff) Kerr and Margaret (Joe)Brafchak; and grandson, Evan Kerr. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Judith Mehigan and Mary Jean Maglione, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hilary Catholic Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Hilary Church.
