Irma M. Modugno

Irma M. Modugno, after enjoying 100 years of life, died peacefully on Sunday, April 28.

The daughter of Giovanni (John) and Filomena (Biasella) Ricchiuto, Irma was born on August 3, 1923. She grew up on North Hill, where she attended St. Martha Elementary School and graduated from North High School in January 1942.After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary and then as secretary to the design and engineering department at Goodyear Aircraft, which developed the first fighter plane, the FG1 Corsair. She was offered and declined a ride on that plane but, after turning 100, accepted a spin on the Goodyear blimp.

On November 9, 1946, Irma married Rocco Modugno and raised their four children in Cuyahoga Falls. In addition to being a daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (of 21), she was employed as a secretary and claims adjuster in the insurance industry until 1976. She was an avid bowler, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and a resident of the Danbury in Hudson.

In addition to her parents and her husband “Rockie” of 62 years, she was preceded in death by sister, Eleanor Anguilo; brothers, Vincent and John Ricchiuto, and son-in-law, Richard Reese.

She is survived by son, Vincent (Carolyn); daughters, Maryann Romans (Scott), Roxanne Lee (Curtis), and Barbara Romero; grandchildren, Elisa Modugno (Adam Coon), Angela Modugno (Matthew First); Elizabeth Reese Mangon (Brett); Jim Reese (Joanna); Steven Reese (Meredith), Daniel Reese (Ashley), Katie Sullivan (Josh), Jonathan Lee, Michael Romero (Dierdre Tobin), Matthew Romero (Megan), Cristina Romero (Nathan Duderstadt), Jacob Romero and Josh Romero; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial 10AM Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
