Gerald (Jerry) A. Hood passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with COPD May 9, 2023 at the age of 82.
Jerry was born February 20, 1941 in Akron, Ohio to the late William Donald and Frances McCoy Hood.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Hood Bender; and his siblings, James, Judy MacMillan and Donna June Baumann.
Jerry graduated from Northwest High School in Canal Fulton in 1959. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He was discharged from the Army December of 1962.
After the service he managed service stations for SOHIO and Holland Oil and last worked for C.A. McCourt and Associates, Inc. in Copley, Ohio. He retired in 2002.
Jerry loved reading detective novels, writing poetry, and was an avid coin collector for many years. He was always the first to arrive at his family reunions and loved his family genealogy.
Jerry was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and an active member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church, working as an usher until he wasn't able to because of the COPD.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharyn Rogers Hood; brother-in-laws, Pastor Ray and Linda Rogers, Pastor Mark Rogers; sister-in-law, Dyana Rogers Parker; and dear life-long friend, Ladd McIntosh, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sharyn would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Barberton Summa Hospital for their loving care and for the support and prayers from the members and Pastor Gau at Fairlawn Lutheran Church.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio May 23, 2023 at 11:15 A.M.
A luncheon will follow at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 West Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio at 12:15.
