Frances Pearl Shand

Frances Pearl Shand (nee Spalding), 96, passed away December 28th, 2024.  She was born in Akron, Ohio on November 9th, 1928.

Fran was a work-at-home mom for her adoring husband Sterling of 65 years and her nine loving children: Paul (Linda), Ken (Roxanne), Doug (Meri), Dennis (Susan), Sue Ellen (Frank), Judy (John), Dave (J-Ann), Nancy (Daryl) and Dan (Laurie) along with 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving parents John Walter Spalding and Mary Lucille Spalding and her five siblings; Anna (Wilke), Milly (Tarricone), Sue (Finan), Dan Spalding and Joan (Borowski) who all meant so much to her.

  Mom was a beautiful spirit inside and out who was always cheerful with a ready laugh and the Spalding quick wit and an endless supply of empathy for all.  She had a strong love of the Lord and vigorously practiced her Catholic traditions that she learned at St. Mary’s, Akron where she attended school and grew up nearby.  She used to tell us of fond memories she had helping the nuns clean up after school and then walking across Thornton street to home.

Fran and Sterling were two of the original founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church back in 1954 where they remained active.  Fran also had belonged to the Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors organization for many years.

Family and friends are invited to memorial calling hours on January 5th, 2025 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Ciriello-Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls.  A funeral Mass will be held January 6th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls.
