Elda Palazzo Obituary

Elda Rose (Valletti) Palazzo, born January 22, 1928. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on November 11, 2021. She was lovingly nicknamed “Grandma Pepi”.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (South Philly) to Teodolinda and Eugene Valletti. She lived most of her younger years in South Philly, and during her teens and 20s she worked as a hat check girl for the Click Club where she met many famous people including her favorite, Nat King Cole. It was in Philadelphia she met her husband, James (Jim) Palazzo. They moved to Akron, Ohio and eventually settled in Cuyahoga Falls where they had five children.

Elda worked for many years as credit department manager at Montgomery Wards in Cuyahoga Falls, where she made many life-long friendships. Elda loved cooking and was known for her New Year’s Eve parties and traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinners. She loved to travel, and one of her favorite trips was to Italy where she met many of her cousins and learned where her family came from. Elda was fluent in Italian and was so happy to speak to her cousins in Italy. She also had a great sense of direction while traveling when she realized that when coming home “east” from Yellowstone National Park with Jim that they were traveling into the sun during the evening for several hours. She was not driving.

Later in life, she taught herself how to play guitar and played for the contemporary mass on Sundays at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish. She also developed a love for painting where you could find her on Monday nights painting away. She loved painting portraits of presidents and her grandchildren. She won a ribbon for one of her paintings on display. Elda also loved to make ceramics and jewelry where she happily gave them as gifts to family and friends. Her warm smile and willingness to talk to everyone will be missed.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents Teodolinda and Eugene Valletti, her brothers Primo and Eugene Valletti and her sister Melvina Valletti. She is survived by her sister-in-law Delores Valletti and her children Marc Palazzo, Troy (Carol) Palazzo, Eric (Sheryl) Palazzo, Kurt Palazzo (Amy Hockenbrocht) and Teo (Kevin) Reaman. She is also survived by her grandchildren that she was so proud of including Anthony (Tracy) Palazzo, Chelsey Palazzo, Nolan Palazzo, Nicholas Palazzo, Alexis Palazzo, Jonathan Palazzo, Samuel Reaman, Hayden Reaman, Adam Reaman, Reese Reaman and Sebastiano Palazzo; and great- grandchildren, Payton, Paisley and Parker Palazzo. We cannot forget her dog Coco! Elda was loved and cherished and will be missed by all her knew her.
