Dr. Laura Gerak-Gibbs of Peninsula, Ohio passed away Sunday following a courageous but private battle with leukemia.
She was raised in Stow, Ohio and was a graduate of Stow High School and The University of Akron. She earned her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University and her doctorate from the University of Toledo. She served as a pediatric psychologist at Akron Children's Hospital Medical Center since 1999. She was a member of the Society of Pediatric Psychology, the American Psychological Oncology Society, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care. Her vocation was helping children and their families navigate through life-changing illness.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit, selfless heart, and her love of giving gifts. She had unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith, family, and friends. She thought of her beloved nieces, nephews, and patients as her own children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emil Gerak; grandparents, aunts, uncles; and cousin, Tammy Gray (Donzelli).
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Gibbs, her mother, Nancy Gerak (Donzelli), brother, Tony Gerak (Tricia); sisters, Amy Mangione (Andy), Michele Clayton (Dan) and Mary Brehm (Ryan). She is also survived by her in-laws Carol and Art Gibbs, brother-in-law Arthur III (fiancee Vickie), and numerous nieces and nephews that she adored, and friends too numerous to count.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 3rd at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn from 4:00 - 8:00 PM . Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church in Munroe Falls, Ohio at 11:00 AM on Friday August 4, 2023, PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
