Chuck was a good husband and a good father to his family. He lived by the saying of Rev. Father Theodore Hesburgh who once said, “The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.”
His education included St. Sebastian Grade School, Archbishop Hoban High School, The University of Akron, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, and The University of Illinois Master of Science program in Orthodontics.
He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander from 1967 to 1968 on the USS Independence (CVA-62) as a naval dentist. Professional organizations included the Optimist Club, the Akron Dental Society, and the Cleveland Orthodontic Society, for which he served as past president. Chuck practiced orthodontics in the Fairlawn, Ohio area for 37 years creating beautiful smiles.
Prior to his retirement, Chuck enjoyed the family cottage, the hill country on Piedmont Lake, Ohio, Ohio State football games, weekly tennis matches, wonderful family vacations, several school reunions, and the lovely beaches of St. Augustine, Florida.
Upon his retirement, he and Karen relocated to Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, where they quickly became active in their community.
Chuck volunteered at the Wildflower Dental Clinic and the Habitat for Humanity at St. Anastasia Church. Furthering his God given ability in art, he relished in taking colored pencil classes and watercolor classes. His family and friends enjoyed receiving one of his yearly artistically created Christmas cards. Also in retirement, Chuck and Karen enjoyed trips around the country and the world, with many including family and friends.
The family would like to thank his caregivers for their compassionate care of Chuck. Also thank you to the neighbors of Anastasia Dunes for their constant emotional and physical support of Chuck. Friends around the area are deeply appreciated. Words cannot express our gratitude for your ongoing friendship. Finally, the family thanks Community Hospice of St. Augustine, which was a blessing.
