David Amato Obituary

David J. Amato passed away on August 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cleveland, David graduated from Mentor High School in 1953 and attended Lakeland Community College in Kirtland. He served in the Army, stationed in Germany (1957-59) and recalled during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1961-62). He excelled as expert marksman with the 47th Armed Division.

David began his engineering career at Warner & Swasey as a tool designer. He was also employed by Terex/GM in Hudson and Goodyear Aerospace as a manufacturing engineer. Always a perfectionist, he was quick to lend a hand and carefully crafted opinion to auto, home or repairs of any kind.

David will be remembered as a loyal husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After retirement, he discovered his passion for golf. As a golf enthusiast, he developed many memories and friendships on golf courses throughout Northeast Ohio. His golf buddies were known as The Men's SSS Golf Group – an acronym that stood for "Slice, Shank, and Swear," according to golf lore.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eileen Amato; siblings Kathy Catalano, and John Amato; first wife, C.A. Clark. Survived by sons David & Dan Amato, Ron & Mike Camp. He is also survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy; children, Kim McLaughlin, Jeff and Tommy Bruno; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 11am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd, Fairlawn in memory of David Amato.
