Darcy Smerglia

Darcy L. Smerglia, passed away peacefully July 26, 2025, after a long illness.

Darcy lived most of her life in Silver Lake, Ohio but was born in Steubenville, OH. She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1965. She went on to graduate from Kent State in 1970 with a B.S. in early childhood education. She met Gary Smerglia a few years after graduation, and they were married in 1975. While living in Silver Lake she became involved in the Garden Club. She through the years held many positions from club secretary to president, she loved her friends she made in the club and loved participating in the festival. She was involved in many other organizations as well like SLCC golf club, Tucson Lion’s Club, and Flower craft. Darcy had a passion for creativity and flowers. She always had a garden and prided herself in the work she did. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and was part of the altar guild. Her hobbies included, playing bridge, knitting, book binding, and interior design, among many others. 

Darcy’s family was at her center. Her daughter Lane Smerglia (Doug Pfoufts, husband) and her stepson Richard Smerglia (Kimberly Smerglia, wife) and her grandson, Brandon Smerglia were always excited to have her cook for them, waiting for a delicious pasta dish or whatever she made that day. She was a great cook! She loved that her daughter followed her passion in the kitchen. 

Darcy was talented, passionate, a hard worker, and devoted wife and mother. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a beautiful smile that lit up any room she was in.

She was survived by her husband Gary Smerglia, of 50 years; daughter Lane Smerglia (Doug); stepson Richard Smerglia (Kimberly); grandson, Brandon Smerglia.

Graveside service 11am Monday, August 4, 2025, at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls
