Dan Marseglia Obituary

Dan Joseph Marseglia went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2021 at 95 years of age after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Dan was born in Akron, Ohio on January 16, 1926. He graduated from West High School in January 1944. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the European Theater as part of the Greatest Generation until the end of WWII.

Dan was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the North Akron Knights of Columbus. He was a successful salesman at the M. O’Neil Company with over 40 years of service. He met the love of his life Lena when she came to O’Neil’s with her brother to buy their parents’ first television. They were married seven months later on August 28, 1954 and always loved sharing the story of how they met.

Dan had many hobbies and talents. He enjoyed playing the trumpet in his high school marching band and in the Army. While on assignment in Europe he played reveille, retreat and taps. He also loved listening to music, especially the big bands. Dan was active in several bowling leagues and enjoyed spending time with his poker and golf buddies taking annual trips to Pinehurst, NC. He was quite the gardener and kept a meticulous yard including beautiful flowers. Family vacations were annual events as he loved to travel by car with his AAA TripTik that was carefully planned holding special memories for his daughters. After retirement, Dan and Lena enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter months and to many other destinations around the country. He was also an avid photographer as many family events and vacations were often captured in his numerous photos and movies. But what he loved most was his family including many gatherings for all occasions and holidays. This was especially true on Christmas Eve at the Marseglia household where many traditional foods were prepared.

Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lena (DiFrangia) Marseglia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Celestino and Mary (Luisi) Marseglia; sister, Antoinette Aquila; and brother-in-law, Frank Aquila. He is survived by his three daughters, Linda (Tom) Burgett, Janet (Bill) Jones, Nancy (Larry) Whitman; grandchildren, Daniel (Kandyce) and John (Luda) Burgett; Alison (Kevin) Miller and Caroline Jones; Andrew (Ashley) Whitman and Lauren (James Kertcher) Whitman; great-grandchildren, Quinn Miller and Antonio Burgett and another great-granddaughter expected in April; nephew, Frank (Penny) Aquila), and niece, Mary Ann (Tom) Barnes.

He fought Parkinson’s disease with determination and bravery. He was always Lena’s rock throughout their marriage especially the past several years in spite of his own illness. A special thank you to the staff of Maplewood at Cuyahoga Falls and the Traditions Health hospice team for the compassion and excellent care shown to Dan over the last few years.
