Dale Nixon, 103, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, September 7, 2024.
He was born in Lenox, Iowa. Service in World War II interrupted his education at Missouri State Teachers College. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant, B17 bomber pilot. He flew 35 Missions. He received many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He graduated from Marquette University. The family moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio in 1961. He retired from Firestone. Dale ushered at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and volunteered at Saint Thomas Hospital over 21,000 hours.
Dale loved family and was devoted to his wife, Elaine, who predeceased him in 2009, after 63 years of marriage. His son Mark also predeceased him in 2023. He is survived by daughters Mary Wittman (Chuck) of Johnstown, Oh., Jane Waterman (Dick), of Akron, Oh., and sons James (Gerry Wesley) of Rocky River, Oh., Patrick (Inday) of Westlake, Oh., and his brother Ray of Raymore, Mo.
Dale Is beloved by 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dale will be fondly remembered as a gentleman with quick wit and sense of humor. One of his “Daleisms” was “Don’t go away mad. Just go away.”
The family has heartfelt gratitude for the professional care and concern by the staff of Bath Creek Estates, Summa Hospice and caretakers, Terry, Patti and Debbie.
Calling hours will be 5-7pm Friday, September 20, 2024, at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 12:45pm Monday, September 23, 2024.
