Carol A. Swartz

Carol A. Swartz (Seminerio) passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025. Carol was born March 7, 1938 in Akron Ohio, to John and Josephine Seminerio (Camarata). She was the youngest of three children. She grew up in Akron, attended St. Sebastian School, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

She met her husband, Jim Swartz, while playing putt-putt golf in her senior year of high school and married Jim in 1958; they celebrated over 63 years of marriage at the time of Jim’s passing in 2022. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Raising six children, she dedicated countless hours to all their activities, volunteering many hours at St. Hilary School, youth sports teams and organizations. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, co-chair of the Youth Bowling League, marching band uniform mom and first president of the Parent-Teacher Association at St. Hilary School. As her children grew older and brought grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her family, she took joy in the growing family and spent many hours babysitting, attending their activities and spoiling them.

Carol was very active in her community joining the Fairlawn City Women’s Club in 1989. For over 30 years Carol was instrumental organizing and participating in a range of activities such as Art-in-the-Park, fundraisers and festivals. She held several leadership positions throughout her tenure, including president. Carol was also part of the founding committee to start the Fairlawn Seniors’ group in 2013. She was a leader and organizer of many of the group’s functions and activities.

She enjoyed meeting with friends and playing bridge in several bridge clubs. She loved having family around, especially for holidays and vacationing at Hilton Head. She was a member of St. Vincent Church.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Swartz; brother, Frank Seminerio; and her father and mother.

Carol is survived by her 100-year-old sister, Eleanor Gaeta; her daughter, Kim; her sons, Ken (Michelle), Mike (Vicki), Don (Jamie), Doug (Scott), and Dave (Kacie); her grandchildren, Jennifer, Leah, Andrew, Holly, John, Allison, and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Branson, Emily, Scarlett, and Hunter.

Calling hours 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn. Mass of Christian Burial 11am Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W Market St. Akron, OH 44303.

Interment at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery.
