Together Again
Betty Jean Ross, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2022 surrounded by family.
Born in Akron she was a lifelong Akron resident and a 30-year resident of Fort Myers, Florida. She graduated from South High School and went to work at Firestone. While still in high school she met Bud, the love of her life, while she was working in a soda shop. They married in 1951.
Betty worked until she had children and thereafter focused on her husband and family. For many years she was an active volunteer for St. Thomas Hospital and chaired many of their fund-raising drives, including the annual Day-At-The Races. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St Hilary Parish and participated in their alter society ministry.
She was quick to smile and laugh, and quick to make friends of which she had many. Her passions were golf and bridge and always having the right outfit and hair style. She was a long-term member of Fairlawn Country Club, as well as Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Alfred (Bud) in 2004. She is survived by daughters; Laura O’Brien, Cynthia Ross, son; Donald (Barb) Ross, grandchildren; Jessica Posey, Jordan (Darren) Smucker, Keeley O’Brien, Lyndsay Ross, Shannon O’Brien, Shane O’Brien and great grandchild; Finley Smucker; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vitalia Senior Residences for the care she received there, as well as Kevin O’Brien and long-term girlfriends including Rita, Sandy, Mary, Jennie, Marie, Barbie, their families and so many others, for their continuous concern and support. We all take comfort that after a lifetime dedicated to faith and family, she is now forever reunited with Dad, whom she had dearly missed.
Service will be held Saturday, October 1st at St. Hilary Parish, 2750 West Market St., Fairlawn, where the family will visit with attendees beginning at 8:30, followed by a service at 9:30 and finally, all are welcome to a brunch at Fairlawn Country Club 200 N. Wheaton Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Hilary School, Walsh Jesuit High School or the charity of your choice.
