Barbara Ann Johns, 89, of Fairlawn, OH, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on January 13, 2025 at the Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn. Barbara was fond of saying, “Hope springs eternal in my little world.”
Barbara was born on March 12, 1935 to Anne (nee Kavalasky) and Bernard Schreiner in Cleveland, OH. She grew up a Cleveland Indians fan and considered herself a founding member of the Lou Boudreau Fan Club. Unlike many who are reading this, she was able to see Cleveland win a World Series (1948). She studied at Notre Dame Academy in Cleveland and taught elementary school as a young adult. In 1958 she married John C. Johns M.D (d. 2014) and they had three children, Linda, John and Diane.
Barbara was a friend to all and never met a stranger. She could walk into any room and strike up a conversation and put people at ease. Her favorite topics involved her children and grand-children and she enjoyed sharing their many successes and accomplishments. Barbara was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Linda Bradley (d. 2012). She is survived by her brother Bernie Schreiner, her son John and her daughter Diane Gilger; as well as her daughter-in-law Jennifer (Bennett) Johns, son-in-law Mikal Gilger and son-in-law Douglas Bradley; grandchildren Sam Johns, Maggie Johns, Taylor Gilger, Madison (Gilger) Murphy and Mackenzie (Bradley) Salerno, great-grandchild Lincoln Murphy and 11 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
